Oh so Practical - What features to look out for in baby clothing?

Salaam, hi, merhaba and welcome to this Lullaby Bloom Blog!

Aren’t there so many adorable baby outfits out there?! But when it comes to choosing the best clothes for their baby, most parents look for more than just cute designs. Ideally, the perfect baby clothing should be:

• Easy to put on and take off (especially over the head and for quick nappy/diaper changes!)
• Super soft and cozy for all-day comfort
• Breathable to keep baby cool and comfy
• Gentle on sensitive newborn skin
• Durable enough to survive frequent washing
• And of course - with designs as cutes  pie!

In this Blog, we’ll walk you through the most practical baby clothing features to look out for. These parent-approved details will help make daily changes smoother, faster, and your day a little easier.

1 . Easy Dressing  - for Nappy/ Diaper Changes and Dressing

For baby clothes, the question always pops up - What’s easier: zippers or poppers? And the answer is use clothing like our Sleepsuits that have both! These handy features make dressing and nappy/diaper changes much easier for parents and more comfortable for babies.

Look out for:

  • Snaps or zips along the legs or crotch area - for quick nappy/diaper changes.

  • Double zipper - for faster, warmer, and easier nappy changes especially during night time or when out and about.

  • Envelope neck or wide neck openings - for quick dressing and undressing.

  • Our World’s first Peek-a-Boo flap clothing - for quick and easy way to see if baby's nappy/diaper wetness indicator is wet without interrupting baby at all! Simply lift up the flap to check!

2. Adjustable Closures

If you want baby clothes that last longer and make life a little easier, adjustable features are really helpful!

Look out for:

  • Organic Cotton, bamboo, or modal fabrics are nice and gentle on sensitive skin, reducing irritation and discomfort for your baby.

  • Go for breathable and moisture-wicking materials that help regulate your baby's body temperature, preventing them from getting too hot and sweaty.

  • Fabrics which are made for all seasons! Our clothing is made from 100% Organic Cotton, a soft, airy fabric that keeps your baby stays fresh, happy, no matter the weather or temperature outside or even inside with AC.

3. Soft, Breathable Fabrics

Choosing the right fabric is important for your baby's comfort and health and coziness!

4. Tagless or Soft Tags

Nobody wants their baby’s skin to be irritated by horrible prickly labels!

Look out for:

  • Clothes with no labels or tags that could irritate your baby's delicate skin, or choose those with easily removable tags.

  • Clothes that are completely free of prickly labels (that use heat transfer labels like ours!), preventing any irritation or itching, especially good for babies with eczema or sensitive skin, keeping baby happy and comfortable all day long!

5. Safety Features

When it comes to your baby’s safety and comfort, every little detail matters.

Look out for:

  • A globally recognised textile safety standard called OEKO-TEX®. This Certification means that the item has been tested for over 100 hundred harmful substances like nickel and formaldehyde. All the fabrics, zips, and poppers in our clothes are OEKO-TEX® certified, so you can trust they’re safe for your baby’s sensitive skin.

  • Clothes with built-in hand mitts to help prevent scratching, and secure zippers for easy dressing and. All of our Sleepsuits from 0 months all the way up to 18 months automatically come with hand mitts and double zippers!

  • Avoid any loose buttons or decorations that could pose a choking hazard.

  • Baby clothing that adheres to local safety baby clothing standards. Our baby clothes are designed to meet top UK and EU safety standards, including BS EN 14682, BS 7907, and REACH—so you can trust there are no tangles, toxins, or loose parts, just soft, secure, and durable designs for worry-free comfort.

  • Nickel-free poppers - We use only nickel-free poppers making our fastenings safe, gentle, and irritation-free for even the most sensitive skin.

6. Easy Care

Check out our earlier Blog on ‘How should I wash and care for my baby clothes? for more detail, but these might help!

Look out for:

  • Clothes that are machine washable – because let's be honest, you'll be doing a lot of laundry!

  • Durable fabrics that can really stand up to frequent washing; they need to last through countless cycles.

  • Colours and prints that won't fade easily, so your baby's adorable outfits stay looking great wash after wash.

7. Weather Appropriate

Dressing your baby for the weather is all about smart choices that keep them comfortable, whether you’re in GCC or anywhere in the World!

For warmer climates look out for:

  • Lightweight, breathable fabrics like Organic Cotton, bamboo, or modal - these help to wick away moisture and allows air to circulate, preventing overheating.

  • Loose-fitting, short-sleeved or sleeveless outfits that don’t cling to the skin and allow for better airflow.

For cooler climates look out for:

  • Layering-friendly pieces that make it easy to adjust to temperature changes throughout the day.

  • Warm fabrics like fleece or thicker cotton to ensure your little one stays cozy and snug.

8. Snug Fit for Sleepwear

When it comes to bedtime, safety and comfort go hand in hand.

Look out for:

Sleepwear should fit snugly to help reduce the risk of suffocation or other hazards, giving you peace of mind while your baby rests.

Make sure you check your baby’s clothing Size Chart so that it fits your baby well according to their height and weight. Check out our Blog on ‘What size baby clothes should I buy?’ to help guide you!

9. Minimal Seams and Tags

For babies with sensitive skin, the little details make a big difference.

Look out for:

  • Clothes with flat or minimal seams to provide extra comfort and prevent irritation.

  • Seamless designs or styles with soft binding on the inside (which is what we use!) for a gentle, itch-free feel all day long.

Finally…

When it comes to baby clothing, comfort, safety, and practicality matter just as much as cuteness. Look for soft, breathable fabrics, easy-access fastenings, and adjustable features that grow with your baby. Snug sleepwear, safe materials, and irritation-free seams all help keep your little one comfy day and night.

And don’t forget - simple details like tagless labels and weather-appropriate designs can make a big difference. Choosing the right features makes dressing quicker, safer, and a lot more enjoyable for everyone especially for your little one!
